Text: 1 Peter 3:1-6

Objective: To lead learners to:

-                      State the approaches to be used in leading husbands to Christ.

-                      Use the approaches learnt to lead husband to Christ.

Memory Verse: 1 Pt 3:1

Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives.

We all know that in our churches and ministries there are more women (believers) than men (believers). This leads us to the questions “Christian women, where are your husbands? Do you want to have eternal life alone?” The winning of husbands by Christian women to Christ is a task which we must accomplish for the sake of the Kingdom of God. 1 Pt 3:1 says it takes submission (willingness to obey) for a Christian woman to win her husband to Christ. Being that, he is the head of the family and answerable to Christ, it is necessary that he recognizes and be in Christ and obey His command of “Husband love your wife with the same love Christ loved the Church and gave His life for her-----”

Many people say salvation is free but forget that it cost Jesus much suffering – His life.

1 Peter 3:1-6 gives clear instructions to women whose husbands don’t believe in Christ;

-                      Submit to your husband so that if they’ve not believed God’s word they will be won over by your conduct (behavior)

-                      Words are not necessary because your conduct will do it better.

-                      Outward beauty will not be of great value as your true inner self, gentle and quiet spirit, just as the women of old who hoped in God – Serah.

Submission includes three parts of a woman’s life

-                      Her conduct (behavior)

-                      Her grooming (Keeping yourself, clothing clean)

-                      Her faith

A.        Gracious Conduct

It is often easy to be nice to people outside but what about your attitude towards your children and husband?

Once my Christian friend whose husband was not yet born again went to work while her husband stayed at home. Their family friend called to visit them. Her husband decided out of good will to prepare a meal for the guest because she would come back late and tired. When my friend arrived, her husband happily showed her the food he had prepared. Without appreciation my friend bullied “Why did you prepare the potatoes that way?” Her husband said not a word and walked out of the kitchen. At table, communication was difficult. My friend tried to talk about faith in Christ to no avail. I had no heart to talk to them of how Jesus wins the respect of husbands through their wives’ gracious conduct. Even the guest was embarrassed by the atmosphere in that home.

B.        Faith at Work

Does your husband see a real love for God and His Word in your life? Does he see you reading, meditating on the word practicing and sharing it? Does he hear or see you pray and prayers answered?

Woman, you need to talk more to God about your husband in prayers than to talk more to your husband about God.

Learn to put away bitterness from your home by forgiving your husband so that God’s love can flow in your marriage.

Sisters God knows about the kind of husbands we have. It takes only a steady trust in God to sustain us through the trying days. Maintain a spirit of prayer for your husband as you try to understand him, waiting patiently and expecting of the Lord. Make friends with sisters whose husbands were once like yours before becoming Christians.

1.            State what you will do to enable your husband accept the Jesus you confess.

2.            How has your becoming a Christian made you to become a virtuous wife.

3.            Is your husband born again? What difficulties do you face with him as you love to see him born again?
